In this day and age, you can do just about anything for fun and even most things to make money, and YouTube is one of those things. You can use YouTube to share recipes, stories, funny moments, and just about anything else you can think of. The only question is, there are so many possibilities so where in the world should I start?
If you are like a lot of people and struggle to know what you should begin doing with your YouTube channel, you have come to the right place! Below are a few different ideas you can employ when you’re first starting to try and make interesting content for your channel and videos. Hopefully, this will start you on your feet and you’ll be able to come up with some other ideas moving forward!
This is more or less exactly what it sounds like: telling stories! You can set up a camera, some lights, a good mic, and add a few pictures and you will have the perfect storytelling environment on your hands. Whether you’re retelling a commonly known public story or you’re writing and sharing your own stories, this is an idea that’s bound to get a hit or two.
You should be extremely careful in this area though. Plagiarism is something that needs to be avoided at all costs because it’s not only wrong, but you could get in serious trouble if someone or somewhere was to file a lawsuit. This is an extremely dramatic worst-case scenario, but anything is possible. Just make sure you’re being honest and give credit where it’s due, and you won’t have a problem of any kind.
2. Sharing Talents
Sharing unique talents is another obvious one. Now, you don’t have to be the best at violin playing or catching frisbees or whatever it is you’re going to do. All you need is to have a talent you’re confident enough to share with potentially millions of people. And this could be anything you can think of.
Trick shots, cooking, sports, music, and anything else that comes to mind might be a great option for you to employ. As said, pick something that you can do with plenty of confidence and surety and you’ll be in good shape. If you’re confident enough, you might even consider doing some instructive videos on that particular talent of yours.
And that brings us to our next idea which is tutorials. It’s pretty rare to find a person who hasn’t learned at least one thing from a YouTube video. It doesn’t matter if you’re looking for makeup tutorials, drumming tutorials, or cooking tutorials. It’s all there, available at the push of a button.
When you create a tutorial, you need to make sure that it’s clear, understandable, and simple. This will help you avoid frustration and complaints among your viewers as well as make it easy for them to learn what you’re trying to teach. And don’t limit yourself to tutorials. You can post videos for piano lessons, DJing lessons, and anything else you can think of. YouTube is a great tool for this!
4. Opinion Videos
Opinion videos are easy because we all have them, certainly. As with a lot of other ideas, there isn’t a whole lot of limit as to what you can make an opinion video about. This can be a product, media of some kind, books, video games, food, politics, etc. You can video your opinions about different dog breeds and people of some kind will certainly watch them.
Opinion videos are a great way to keep YouTube channels up and going for a long time because you can have an opinion on literally anything. You should, of course, articulate those opinions in an organized and meaningful way, but choosing this avenue will bring in revenue and easily give you plenty of content to work with.
Now, when I say recreations, that doesn’t mean you should make exact copies of things that other people have already done. Recreations can extend to recipes, song parodies, items, experiences, and countless other things. You should put a twist on whatever it is you’re recreating and make it your own thing.
A great way to do this is to target nostalgia. According to Channel Makers on YouTube, since COVID uprooted a lot of things, people started to wish for things they hadn’t had or experienced for a long time. If you can capture that for a lot of people, that’s a sure way to generate plenty of views.
Reviews are technically another way of expressing your opinions about things, but it’s also a great way to share helpful information with people. You can provide little reviews on movies, food dishes, and most of all, products. People will find this extremely helpful if they’re looking to try a product or something else out for the first time. Just think: your review could save someone from being ripped off.
7. Musical Content
Musical content has a thousand different names that it could be categorized under. You could be posting videos of yourself playing an instrument, singing, creating parodies of songs, mixing tracks as a DJ, displaying songs you have written, and anything else you might want to share with other people. There are few limits here so use your imagination and think big!
If you’d like to share what you’ve done for work over the years and what you do best, creating a channel dedicated to your trade is a fantastic way to do that. This becomes quite easy to do, especially if you are passionate about what you do for a living. Make it a fun way to show others how all of that works and why you do what you do.
If you want, this could even become a branch of your tutorials channel. You can teach others certain aspects about your trade and help them understand how it works. There is no end to the possibilities so get creative and showcase your talents in a way that is unique to you!
9. Micro Projects
This is a great option for those who favor creating YouTube shorts because a micro project can be completed in just a few seconds. The project itself will take a bit longer but it won’t be difficult to put the video together. A micro project is when you take little snippets of videos when you’re in the middle of a project and showcase the process and the results.
If you’re ever working on a piece of furniture or something similar for your house, be careful to document your progress. A micro project only needs tiny snippets of each portion of the project strung together. Take pictures/videos of different steps in your process and put them together. This, too, is an effective way to inspire other people with ideas and get plenty of views.
10. Recycled Content
Recycling your content is another great way to utilize shorts. When recycling content, it means you are pulling out some of your older videos and putting a series of clips from them into shorts. This is a great way to get more views on your channel in general as well as to resurrect your other videos.
11. Pure Entertainment
One of the largest reasons people use things like YouTube and TikTok is because of the pure entertainment factor. Who doesn’t love watching dogs run around in the snow or kids saying funny things or everybody and their uncle doing a faceplant at some point? If your goal is to get laughs as well as likes, this is a fantastic way to do that.
12. A Look Into Life
Especially since COVID, people have needed creative outlets where they can share what’s happened in life. But more importantly, people have needed a return to the basic, simple joys of life. This often comes in the form of sharing a look into what your everyday tasks look like. This could mean giving a little tour of your home or your vegetable garden or doing something else entirely. Just keep it basic and make it you and you’ll find success!
Reactions are quite a fun way to utilize the content of others out there as well as create your own. We enjoy watching each other react to certain videos, movies, and other media. If you think you’ve got an entertaining camera face, then a reaction series is probably right up your alley.
14. Gaming Walkthroughs
If you enjoy video games, then doing what you love and walking others through it should be easy. Turning on your screen recording and mic and doing a video game walkthrough is a more than likely way to get your channel a few views. Be clear and make sure you know exactly what you’re talking about so you don’t mislead anybody. Game walkthroughs are pretty popular so you shouldn’t have a problem getting at least a few views!
Using experimentation of several kinds might be what you need to get things rolling with your channel. For example, if you are a cook, you might showcase some experiments and variations you’ve wanted to try with your recipes. If you’re a craftsman you might try a few different things with your craft. Get creative and think outside the box, and you’ll have no shortage of experiments to try no matter what niche you practice them in.
